For those of us who encounter the Holy through doing...
The Gospel accounts tell of a variety of ways that people responded to their encounter with Jesus. The Hebrew Scriptures also tell of how people respond to God in many different ways. We are each uniquely made in the Image of God. The uniqueness of each person can be seen in the way we live into our relationship with God. We are both spiritual and physical beings. This page is dedicated to exploring how we might encounter God through our physical activities.
Prayer Walk
A prayer walk is an intentional act during which we use the movement of walking to carry our prayer. Walking can help us to focus our attention while we have a conversation with the One who walks with us. Before you begin your walk, acknowledge God's presence. Take a deep breath or simply pause a moment before setting out on your walk. Let God know your intention is to walk and pray during this time, then take your first steps. As you set out, focus on the motion of our body. How does the ground feel under your feet? How does your body feel as you move? What do you notice with your five senses? You might give thanks for the opportunity to spend this time walking with God. During the walk, have a conversation with God. As thoughts come to mind, share them with God. You might pray for your surroundings, the people you see, the businesses along your route or the creation around you. Or you may have something you need to talk with God about as you walk together. At the conclusion of your walk, pause for a moment as an "Amen." Give thanks to God for this intentional time together. In reflection, you might think about the prayers that came to you along the way. Did anything surprise you? What does that say to you? Is there something you might spend more time with in prayer later on? What seemed to grab your attention on the walk? How did God seem to you?
