Music has long been a part of worship life for people of faith. With it's many styles and tempos, music can spark our imagination as well as our insight. I have found music to be an invitation to prayer. Melodies and harmonies can set the stage for a prayerful state of mind. Lyrics can connect with what is going on deep inside of us as well as speak to our outward experiences. I invite you into a time of Holy Listening where music is a tool for initiating a time of prayer. Please note that the links are to videos on youtube. Some thoughts for reflection that you may wish to journal about or simply ponder: How might this music open your heart to see or hear God?
For other refection: If this is a familiar hymn, did the lyrics come to mind? Did they speak to a memory or current situation in your life? Who came to mind during this time of Holy Listening - what was your prayer for them? How did the melody or harmony of the music touch you? What types of music serve as a bridge to prayer for you? Did the music inspire particular prayers or a time of silence or reflection? Why do you think you responded this way?
